Getting back into your Exodus wallet

Find the situation that matches yours. Not sure which one applies? Ask us directly.

You can get back into an Exodus wallet two ways: from your 12-word secret key, or from the encrypted wallet on your computer and its password. Check which you have, then read the section that matches.

Have your 12-word secret key? You can set a new password

If you still have the 12 words, choose Restore at the password prompt in Exodus Desktop, enter them in order, and set a new password once the wallet loads. You don't need the old password. Exodus support can't reset a password for you, so anyone who offers to is a scammer.

Forgot the password and lost the key?

Exodus Desktop keeps your wallet encrypted in its data folder on your computer, mainly in a file called seed.seco. The Exodus browser extension, which Exodus ended on October 1, 2026, keeps its encrypted wallet inside your browser, so don't uninstall it or clear your browser data while it's locked. In both cases we can test your password guesses against the encrypted wallet on offline machines. Our Exodus password guide covers what to check first and what to send.

Exodus Mobile is different. It unlocks with your phone's own passcode or biometrics, and we can't recover an Exodus wallet from a locked phone.

Missing a word, or restored an empty wallet?

Exodus always uses 12 words. If one is missing, keep the words you have in order, along with an Exodus receiving address you know the wallet used. An empty wallet after restoring usually means one word is slightly wrong but still passed Exodus's check, or that the phrase went into a wallet that reads some networks differently. Our Exodus 12-word phrase guide walks through both.

Can't find yours? Ask us directly.

Absolutely. All wallet recovery happens on computers that are completely disconnected from the internet — no one can access them remotely. Your information is encrypted and secure. We never ask for your full password, and you decide what details to share with us. Your security is our top priority.
